From here, it's just 15 minutes to Canmore or Kananaskis Village, and 35 minutes to Calgary or Banff.
Alberta's Nakoda First Nation is comprised of three bands: Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney. Nakoda means friend, ally, and the name "Stoney" was given by explorers, because of the technique of using fire-heated rocks to boil broth in rawhide bowls.
On June 10, 2008 the Stoney Nakoda Casino doors officially opened. Less than a year later in February of 2009, the hotel portion of the resort was completed, and began welcoming guests.
